August Tope Succumbed After Short Illness
As a distinct shock to the community came the news that August HiramTope, seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elza Tope, had passed awayat the family home in Latty, late Sunday afternoon, after a brief illnessof four days. Although his condition had been reported serious, it wasnot until Sunday believed to be critical and then only known to acomparatively few to be so. . . . August Hiram Tope, known to all hisfriends and schoolmates as "Aug" was born in Briceton, Ohio, the thirdchild to Elza and Emma Tope, on March 31st, 1915, and departed this lifeat the family home in Latty, Ohio, July 24th, 1932 at the age of 17years, 3 months, and 24 days.
He was of the disposition and bearing that to know him was to like himand was favorably and well known to the entire community.
He completed his Junior year in the Latty High School last Spring, andwas a regular attendant at the M.E. Sunday School. August had beenengaged in assisting his father with the operation of a threshing outfitto the day of being stricken.
He leaves to mourn his demise, besides the sorrow stricken parents, three brothers, Ira, Wilbur and Carl, four sisters, Dorthea, Catherine,Margaret and Maxine and a host of other relatives and fiends.
On Monday and Tuesday scores of neighbors and friends of thefamily visited the home where the eartly (sic) remains repose in thebeautiful casket banked with flowers which spoke the esteem in which thelate departed was held by the community.
