Note: Charles Riddle was a Primitive Baptist Preacher and he moved to Tennesse around 1810. The Court Minutes of August 1807 "list of insolvents in Capt. Bennett's District for the year 1806" in Chatham County, NC shows Charles Riddle with one poll.
In 1812 Charles is listed in the Robertson County, Tennesse tax list along with his brother-in-law Mark Patterson. In 1820 he and his family were living in Hardin County, Tennesse and in 1822 he moved to Henderson County, Tennesse where he was joined by his brother Nathaniel Riddle.
Rev. Charles Riddle was a noted hunter and once or twice a year he would travel to the eastern part of Old Tishomingo County, Mississippi where he would deer hunt. He traveled over the same trail each time and the trail later became known as The Riddle Wind because it was so crooked and many of the early pioneers used this route while traveling from Tennesse to Mississippi.
On September 2, 1839 Charles purchased from Samuel Cook for $1,000 the northwest 1/4 of section 33 and the southwest 1/4 of the section 26 in Township #5 and Range 9 East in Old Tishomingo County. This land is located in what is now Prentiss County, Mississippi.
Rev. Charles Riddle and his wife Milberry and one other unidentified person are buried in three "crossways" graves in the Mackey Creek Cemetary. He requested to be buried North and South instead of East and West because "while I was in the world , the world was always crossways with me and when I die I want to be buried crossways with the world".

Note: Records in Chatham County, NC show that Nathaniel returned to his parents old homeplace at least twice. He was there in May of 1828 when his father gave him "A Deed of Gift" which was most likely personal effects since he lived in Tennesse it would have been unlikely he was deeded land. Four years later he returned to collect his share of his fathers estate.
In 1841 Nathaniel and his brother Charles decided to move their families to Tishomingo County, Mississippi. Family legend has it the move was made by ox-wagon and that after only a day or two into the journey and while still in Tennesse a wagon wheel broke and Nathaniel suffered a heart attack while taking the wheel off. Charles continued on while Elizabeth took her husbands body back to his old homeplace in Henderson County, Tennesse for burial. It is believed that his sister Dicy and brother-in-law bought his homeplace in Henderson County, Tennesse.
