Note: Richard was enlisted into the Confederate Army on March 17, 1862 by Capt. Alf Johnson at McKinney Texas. He served with Capt. Alfred Johnson's Spy Co. of Texas Calvary. Officially Company "E", Morgan's Battallion of Texas Calvary. Richard was a 2nd Lieutenant when he died July 11, 1863 in Ringold, Georgia.
Richard and Jonathan M. Riddle were in Wood County, Texas at least as early as 1853.

Note: During the Civil War James served in the Confederate Calvary. He rose from private to 3rd Sgt. and then to 1st Sgt. in his company Captain Warren's Rangers. On Jan. 9, 1863 the Yankee's captured him at his home on Big Spring "in the old settlement" as the early Riddle's called it. James had been hiding in a woodpile and someone turned him in. He died of smallpox in the Military Prison in Alton, Illinois. A Confederate Monument stands in his memory at the Mackey Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetary.

Note: Thomas and Mary Ann moved from Henderson County, Tennesse to Tishomingo County, Mississippi after their marriage where Thomas had purchased land in 1844 from his brother William Harmon Riddle consisting of 60 acres. In 1849 they moved from Mississippi to Smith County, Texas traveling by caravan and with members of his wife's family. They settled between Grand Saline and Canton, Texas where he homesteaded enough land to give each of his children 75 acres and keep 75 for himself.
