Riddle, William {I0157} (b. 1775, d. AFT. 1850)
Note: William and Rebecca lived in Greensboro Township in Moore County. Today that would be Lee County. They were listed in 1850 Moore County census William's age as 75 and Rebecca's as 65 neither shows up in 1860 census and it is assumed they both died during the 1850's
In August of 1831 William recorded his ear mark to be smooth cross and a slit in the right ear and nothing in the left ear.

Riddle, James Alvis {I0159} (b. 1809, d. 3 May 1862)
Note: Court minutes of Moore County, NC show James A. Riddle serving as a Constable in District Number One. He was a retailer of "spiritous liquors" at one time and also served as Coroner of Moore County.
He was a great sportsman, hunting by choice and a wheel-wright by trade. When he and Flora were married Flora's mother gave her several negro slaves. James built their home on the Plank Road from Fayettville to Aria Hill. The road ran between his home and work-shop where he carried on a big business and worked several hands. James brother Daniel L. Riddle is listed in 1850 census as living with James and working as a farmer at the age of 18 years old.
James A. Riddle was a jolly, accomodating man and his door was always open to friends and strangers alike. Shortly before the start of the Civil War James lost all of his property
James was looked up to for advice and council and was a Master Mason. He worked hard to give his children an education.
James Alvis Riddle Corporal 48th Infantry Co D CSA : born in Moore county where he resided as a mechanic. Enlisted March 10 1862 at the age of 52 died May 3, 1862 at Raliegh, NC of disease.

Riddle, John {I0166} (b. 1820, d. ABT. 1870)
Note: John and Margaret lived in Greenwood Township, Moore County, NC in the area of Crains Creek. In Deed Book 47, pages 174-175 John Riddle is shown buying land in that area from James Riddle which was located on both sides of Deep River on the Plank Road joining the land of Daniel L Shaw. This deed was dated June 25, 1857 but was not recorded until Feb. 2, 1911.
Census records indicate that John Riddle was a wagon-maker.
