Note: Alvis Poe had his house all ready for his bride who his sister in "Aunt Alice's Story" describes as a beautiful, well accomplished and educated girl.
In 1861 Alvis left his young wife and daughter to enter the service, A negro boy named Bob Poe who was 15 years old at the time carried on with the farm work and looked after "Miss Eliza" until Alvis returned from the war.
