Kelly, John Bethune {I0219} (b. ABT. 1789, d. 3 Feb 1847)
Note: John B Kelly was a great lawyer in his day and also quite wealthy. He engaged his nephew Alexander Kelly to build "The Kelly Home " which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It took 7 years to assemble the materials and build this house. The two story house is of heart pine construction and consists of four large rooms downstairs, four large rooms upstairs two chimneys and eight fireplaces. All the timber was hand planed and the bricks for the chimneys were made on the the orginal 3,000 acre holdings of John B Kelly. Alexander bought this house at auction after the death of John B Kelly and at one time had 6,000 acres of land and in 1850 was the wealthest man in Moore county. The graves of John and Mary and those of their children are in what seems to be a special location and away from the rest of the cemetery at Union Presbyertian Church in Carthage, NC. It is believed that john gave the land for the church as well as for a school.

Riddle, William {I0233} (b. ABT. 1787, d. 1837)
Note: William and his wife Nancy evidently moved from Chatham County by 1820 when they gave Power of Attorney to Joseph Seurlock as proven by the court minutes of Feb. 1820. William sold land in 1821 to John Burns the son of William Burns.
By 1822 William Riddle was the jailor in Pittsboro, NC and served as such until his death. The court minutes also show he was appointed overseer of the streets of Pittsboro and in 1833 he was given leave to retail spirits and liquor in his house in Pittsboro.
